There was quite a battle when we bombed this target. The fighters crossed us up, instead of pulling out over the flak areas, they didn't use flak, the fighers bulled in from all directions. We lost quite a few men and planes but the score is even.

This was after we stopped flying. Group lost two planes. Hits not visible in picture. Taken after bombs away but before strikes.
Wiener Neustadt, May 10, 1944
Wiener Neustadt Over this target flak was so accurate that the first burst blocked out the bomb sight in the lead ship. Bombing results snafu. We d--- near got it here. Flak fried No. 2 engine besides 30 or 40 other holes. Fire went out and we came home on 3 engines. Closest we ever came to jumping.
Milano Lambate, April 30, 1944
This is a so-called "milk-run" target, but important to the Jerries as a supply center to the Italian front. Some flak. This round building got it on a later raid.
